Public Letter: A Global Call for Peace and Action. Fulbright and Humphrey Program Community.

“Oppression cannot be ignored; it is our responsibility to fight it.”  Angela Davis
“Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved through understanding.” Albert Einstein

From our territories around the planet, July, 2025.

As members of the global academic community and as leaders committed to building a more just and peaceful world, we raise our voices in firm rejection of the violence and wars that are devastating communities and ecosystems across our planet.Public Letter For Peace Aroun the World

War, in all its forms, destroys human lives, deepens injustice, tears apart communities, and undermines the very fabric of our shared humanity. It also endangers the future of our environment, the sustainability of our societies, and the dignity of generations to come.

We call upon governments, international institutions, and all key actors to take urgent, concrete action to:

  1. End armed conflicts in every corner of the world.
  2. Defend and protect all human life and the natural environment from the ravages of war and destruction.
  3. Promote dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual understanding across borders and cultures.
  4. Support communities affected by violence with resources, justice, and opportunities to rebuild their lives and futures.

As participants, professors, staff members and alumni of the Fulbright and the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Programs—a United States programs that brings together professionals from around the world to foster mutual exchange, public service, and leadership—we reaffirm our commitment to building a world founded on peace, equity, and human dignity.

We believe that education, ethical leadership, and global cooperation are essential tools to confront violence, address systemic injustice, and lay the foundation for lasting peace.

This is a call to conscience and to action. We urge all global citizens—academics, policymakers, professionals, and communities—to join us in this shared mission. Peace is not merely the absence of war; it is the active presence of justice, compassion, and the defense of life in all its forms.

We extend our solidarity with the women, men, girls, boys, and families who are currently suffering the impacts of war, including forced displacement, the destruction of their homes, and direct violence against themselves and their loved ones — including members of our academic community.

We stand united in hope, and in determination.

Sincerely,
